The Rebbe; Transforming the Physical into Spiritual

The creation of this Rebbe portrait began with the concept of Dira b’tachtonim, the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s mission to transform the physical world into the spiritual. Chassidus and the Rebbe taught us to use the physical world to perform mitzvot, thereby elevating it to a higher, spiritual plane. This idea and vision guided Yitzchok Moully in creating this unique and meaningful portrait.

On the 30th Yartzeit of Gimmel Tammuz, Yitzchok Moully together with fellow creator Meir Kruter unveiled a portrait of the Rebbe that we have just completed. This project has been a dream of Moully’s for many years, and it's finally come to life. The portrait is meticulously crafted using small 1/2 inch squares of the Rebbe's Chassidus and dollar bills. These elements symbolize the Rebbe's teachings and his mission to transform the physical into the spiritual.

The Rebbe's Torah used in this piece was taken from books with misprints, ensuring that the sacred text, which otherwise would not be used, finds a higher purpose. The text comes from  the Rebbe's sichos (talks) and maimarim (discourses), rich with profound wisdom and guidance.
Using actual dollar bills, the ultimate symbol of the physical world. Which the Rebbe distributed for tzadaka, we emphasize our power to transform the physical into the spiritual. The Rebbe's Chassidus interlaced with the dollar bills, creating a mosaic that transcends their elements. This special piece merges dollar bills with the Rebbe's Torah, uplifting them both into a beautiful and inspiring portrait of the Rebbe.

The complete portrait is for sale below together with a dollar from the Rebbe that the artist Yitzchok Moully received from the Rebbe himself.
